She said after her first year of writing: “I’m a private person and never thought that I could express my feelings. But strangely enough, whenever I sat down to write this column, my innermost thoughts came to the fore.”

In March 2009, she met several readers who had submitted feedback on her weekly column.

She continued to write sporadically for newspapers. In August 2012 she wrote a column published in The Times of India titled “No woman in Mumbai feels safe any longer”, discussing the murder of 25-year-old Pallavi Purkayastha, whom she met while working on Don. In the article, Chopra expressed her views about the safety of women in cities.

In a July 2014 article published in The Guardian, Chopra criticised female genital mutilation and child marriage. Later that year, Chopra wrote an op-ed for The New York Times titled “What Jane Austen Knew” about the importance of education for girls. She praised and quoted Nobel Peace Prize winners Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi, and described how her desire to help others was triggered when, at just nine years old, she joined her parents while they volunteered their spare time to offer modern health care to the rural poor.

In late 2014, Chopra began writing a monthly column, “Pret-a-Priyanka”, for Elle. In an article published in January 2015, she expressed her views on diversity and being a global citizen.

In June 2018, it was announced that Chopra will publish her memoir titled Unfinished, which is scheduled to be released in 2019 by Penguin Books in India, Ballantine Books in the United States and Michael Joseph in the United Kingdom.

Priyanka Chopra’s Personal Quotes

  1. “I fail to understand why people would think I got a raw deal out of Krrish (2006), considering I was present all through the film, from the beginning till the end. And I don’t know where people get off really. ‘Krrish’ has done a business of Rupees 150 crores. It’s popular and is almost giving ‘Superman’ a run for its money, so what more convincing is required to get the point across? I’m very happy with the response I got from the film. I’m happy with my role. I’ve learnt that you can’t always please everyone in any case. And ‘Krissh’ is my moment of success; I will not allow anyone to take that away from me.” (Stardust magazine, September 2006)
  2. When I became Miss World, I couldn’t believe I had won it. I used to sleep with my crown because I was scared someone would steal it. In a minute the world changed for me. (July 2007)
  3. I’m lucky. I don’t know whether I’m deserving or not. All I know is that I work damn hard for everything. And God helps those who help themselves. Every day is like an exam. I believe destiny and hard work go hand in hand. I was studying to be an engineer when my mom and my brother sent my pictures for the Miss India contest. I didn’t even know about it. If that isn’t destiny, what is? (July 2007)
  4. Most outsiders look at the film world as something glamorous. But no one sees the hard work that goes into it. I haven’t taken a holiday in the last four years. I’m working 25 hours a day. There’s no time to sleep or to eat. (July 2007)
  5. When asked what sets her apart from other actresses: “I don’t come from a film background. I haven’t learned anything about films or film-making. But I have a thirst to know everything about my profession. I want to learn about cinematography, about editing, about music recordings, about post-production. So when people in the know talk, I willingly listen. Also, I’m not scared of working 20 hours a day.”
  6. I got into the movies by accident. When I got an offer, I thought let’s try this too. Everything in my life has happened by trial and error. I didn’t even think I would win the Miss India title so where’s the question of thinking I’d come this far. (July 2007)
  7. I thoroughly believe in the institution of marriage, but there’s still a long way to go before I get married. Right now I want to concentrate on my career.
  8. I adore watching movies; movie marathons are my favorite pastime. I can watch up to five movies back to back. I also love music and like reading whenever I get the time.
  9. When I was in high school in America, I didn’t see anyone who looked like me hardly ever. I just thought that was normal because you don’t know any better. So I used to idolize so many other people, like Sarah Michelle Gellar on Buffy the Vampire Slayer(1996). But when I went back to India at age 17 and started traveling for work, that was when I slowly realized that we don’t all look like one person.
  10. Rani [Mukerji] is a fantastic person. We got on famously during the world tour, where we performed together. She is also not a party animal and very much a family person like me. Rani is a wonderful actor and I admire her even more after watching her performance in Black.
  11. I learned to carry myself with confidence that’s how you make the best impression on people.
  12. I used to be offended by things that were said to me or how I was seen. Now, I educate. If I get pissed off, I’ll educate in a sassy way.
