Deepika Padukone is an Indian actress, daughter of the world-renowned badminton player Prakash Padukone. At 16, Deepika, who was playing National level Badminton, gave her passion for acting a chance, independently moved to Mumbai and is today a powerful brand in herself.

Known to be the highest paid actress, she played the role of Rani Padmini in Padmaavat, which set new a benchmark for a woman-led film to have crossed the milestone of Rs. 300 crores at the box office!

Deepika’s global dominance in the field of art, entrepreneurial affiliations and tenacious voice towards mental health make her arguably the biggest youth role model in India which is corroborated in her social media strength, making her one of the Most Followed Asians in the World.

Her acting journey in Bollywood commenced with Om Shanti Om in 2007, a film that brought national recognition to her and won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Post this, she acted in close to 30 movies across genres, many of which rank among the highest grossing Indian films.

In 2017, she also made her Hollywood debut opposite Vin Diesel in xXx: Return of Xander Cage which received critical & commercial success.

Deepika’s Filmography and acting career

Deepika is an Indian actress who appears in Hindi films. Her first screen appearance was in Himesh Reshammiya’s music video “Naam Hai Tera” in 2005.

Deepika Padukone made her film debut by playing the titular role in the Kannada film Aishwarya (2006).

Her first Hindi film release came the following year with Farah Khan’s melodrama Om Shanti Om, in which she played dual roles opposite Shah Rukh Khan. For her performance, she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut and also received a Best Actress nomination.

Her sole film role in 2008 was as one of Ranbir Kapoor’s love interests in Bachna Ae Haseeno.

Padukone’s first film release of 2009, the kung fu comedy Chandni Chowk to China opposite Akshay Kumar, proved to be a box office flop.

However, her next release, Imtiaz Ali’s romance Love Aaj Kal grossed ₹1.2 billion (US$17 million) worldwide, and garnered her a second Best Actress nomination at Filmfare.

Padukone had five film releases in 2010. The comedy Housefull was a commercial success, though her other four releases failed at the box office.

The series of poorly received films continued with both her 2011 releases—the drama Aarakshan and the comedy Desi Boyz.

The acclaimed role of an impulsive party-girl in Homi Adajania’s Cocktail (2012) proved to be a breakthrough for Padukone and she received several acting nominations for it.

Padukone found further success in 2013 when all four of her films were box office hits. Among these were two of the highest-grossing Indian films—the romantic comedies Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Chennai Express.

She also won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for playing a character based on Juliet in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s tragic romance Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013).

In 2014, Padukone appeared in the Tamil animation film Kochadaiiyaan and played a bar dancer in the top-grossing heist film Happy New Year. The following year, she played a headstrong architect in Shoojit Sircar’s acclaimed comedy-drama Piku, which earned Padukone her second Best Actress award at Filmfare, and portrayed the warrior Mastani in Bhansali’s highly successful historical romance Bajirao Mastani.

Padukone’s first project in Hollywood—the action film xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017)—earned over US$345 million worldwide.

Deepika’s highest-grossing Indian release came in 2018 with Bhansali’s ₹5.45 billion (US$76 million)-grossing period drama Padmaavat, in which she portrayed the titular role of Rani Padmavati.

Expression for Deepika Padukone By Ranveer Singh

Deepika is the most amazing person I’ve met in my life. And I’m not just saying this because she’s my wife. I find it particularly challenging to articulate all my feelings about her, and even though I find language to be a limiting means to express myself, I shall try.

Ranveer Singh can safely say I’m the closest person to her in this world. I know her deeply as a person and I’ve collaborated closely with her as a professional.

Deepika nurtures a universe within herself: of love, compassion, kindness, intelligence, beauty, grace and empathy. These qualities make her a true and authentic artiste- she’s one of the finest actors in the world.

In her dealings, she is straight-shooting, sharp and fair – an absolute and thorough professional.

She’s got inner strength, resilience, grit and an iron-will. Her discipline and commitment is unparalleled. Her path breaking achievements have changed the game time and again. A woman so righteous and full of virtue, that she commands respect.

I sometimes stop and admire her, aware that she is a special soul, born for greatness. She’s born to positively impact lives through the shining beacon of her virtuous being.

That she preserves a vulnerable and innocent, childlike side of herself exclusively for me is inexplicably gratifying.

I am the proudest husband in the world. Deepika inspires me to be the best man I can possibly be. She makes my life worth living. She is truly…the light of my life.
